HOW TO GET ICBC COVERAGE FOR PHYSIOTHERAPY

ICBC covered physio

Whiplash, back, head, and brain injuries are the “common” results of a car accident and unless dealt with effectively, can lead to a lifetime of ever worsening suffering – and the sooner you start physiotherapy treatments, the better your results.

At Grant Gibson’s Surrey Sports & Rehabilitation, for over 33 years we’ve been helping North Surrey residents feel better and stay better - through manual therapy, targeted exercises in our on-site gym, laser therapy and other modalities for work and sports injuries, TMJ, and motor vehicle accident-related injuries - on the first floor of Surrey Medical Arts Centre. Our main goal is to help you, with patient and family education, like this blog on accessing your ICBC coverage for physiotherapy treatments.

ICBC provides coverage for physiotherapy treatments for drivers, passengers or pedestrians that have been injured in a motor vehicle accident (MVA). According to ICBC.com, most people qualify for medical benefits through the Basic Autoplan policy, which will help pay for your medical care and treatment. If you have been in an MVA, once you are safe to do so, report your claim to ICBC online, or call them at 604-520-8222 in the Lower Mainland, or at 1-800-910-4222 in the rest of BC to report a personal injury claim.

From there, your adjuster can explain whether ICBC can make direct payment for your treatments or if you’ll need to pay first and be reimbursed (keep your receipts). Your medical benefits include coverage for physiotherapy. Medical benefits provide coverage up to a limit of $150,000. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to your adjuster to discuss your options for medical treatment.

By contacting a private clinic in your community, like Surrey Sports & Rehabilitation, you can access immediate care. Private clinic visits are also an immediate option for those on hospital out-patient waitlists as they await access to care. To commence your physiotherapy treatment, you will need:

  • Your Care Card Number;

  • ICBC claim number;

  • ICBC adjuster name and phone number; and your

  • Doctor’s referral (if you have one).

At Surrey Sports & Rehabilitation, if you apply for Part 7 benefits with ICBC, and when you get a claim number, you are usually approved for 20 physiotherapy treatments. A doctor’s note is important to support your need for physiotherapy. We want to work with your doctor to help you get better. With an approved claim number you only pay a portion of the fee. The balance is an ICBC surcharge of $25.00 per treatment. We will provide you with a receipt each visit that can be submitted to your ICBC adjuster or lawyer together with any other out-of-pocket expenses for reimbursement. We will never send any reports on you to ICBC or anyone else without your written consent. If you have a lawyer assisting your claim, we can bill them directly for your user fees if you arrange that with them. However, we do not do direction-to-pay. Our responsibility is to you, our patient.
